Open Talk - Orizzontale - "Building the common space"

Open Talk - Orizzontale

"Building the common space"

Friday the 15th  6h30 pm

Casino Padula, via dei Pesci angolo via del Leone, Matera

The Open Design School hosts the Orizzontale collective from Rome. The talk, open to all, will address the issue of common space and the leaving of communities from collective places.

Mobility, flexibility and globalization are elements that are reflected in a public space that no longer meets the real and immediate needs of the communities. Orizzontale began a design research that aims to respond to new social needs through experimentation in public space, optimizing available resources and creating a synergy between different types of "urban waste": waste materials, residual spaces and uses forgotten or unpublished.

Shared construction workshops, public actions, minimum infrastructures are the tools that Orizzontale uses to intervene in the reactivation of common areas. With "Building the common space" they will tell the guidelines of their work, presenting case studies, with a focus on selected projects.

Biography

Orizzontale is a collective of architects based in Rome, whose work crosses architecture, landscape, public art and self-construction. Horizontal promotes projects of public relational space since 2010, giving shape to images of abandoned or unpublished cities. These projects have been a testing ground for new forms of interaction between inhabitants and urban common goods, and at the same time an opportunity to test the limits of the process of architectural creation. Orizzontale has built and developed projects in Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, Greece, Ukraine, Portugal, Holland. "8 ½", the mobile theater built horizontally in 2014, was awarded the Young Architects Program ("YAP MAXXI 2014") prize by the MAXXI Museum and the MoMA PS1. Recently the Orizzontale project "Prossima Apertura" won the "Periferie" competition organized by MIBACT and CNAPPC for the Aprilia area and is now entering its final phase.

Orizzontale is composed by: Jacopo Ammendola, Juan Lopez Cano, Giuseppe Grant, Margherita Manfra, Nasrin Mohiti Asli, Roberto Pantaleoni, Stefano Ragazzo
