Open Talk - SMALL LAB
6h30 Casino Padula, Agna Le Piane, Matera
The weekly meetings of the Open Design School of Matera2019 continue.
This Friday, following the usual appointment of 15.30 with the Open Review, in which we present the progress of our work of mapping and design of stages and furniture, we will have the pleasure to meet new guests.
The 6h30 pm talk will feature SMALL Lab, a study born in Bari in 2007 that is configured as a permanent laboratory and as a platform open to territorial and global collaboration networks, which investigates the contemporary urban condition both through the architectural project and through parallel research forms, hybridizing the curatorial practice with independent publishing and experimentation in the academic field.
The acronym that gives rise to the SMALL name, "Soft Metropolitan Architecture and Landscape Lab", identifies a progressive and "soft" approximation to design, starting from the peripheral fields of the discipline, with a preferential orientation to the intangible components - software - of the territories.
Since 2011, SMALL - Soft Metropolitan Architecture & Landscape Lab, is an architecture office and cultural platform based in Bari and Milan, investigating on the contemporary urban condition through both design (at any scale from landscape to furniture) and forms of parallel research, hybridizing the curatorial practice with independent publishing and academic experimentation. Recent researches of the platform, both privately and publicly funded, have focused on bottom-up and multimedia practices in the reuse of abandoned urban landscapes (with 5 yearly edition of the multidisciplinary itinerant festival Conversion + ) and on the contemporary and future evolutions of public space design in relationship with socio-technological issues. Researches by SMALL have been featured among others, at: Politecnico di Milano, Politecnico di Torino, IUAV (Venezia), Facoltà di Architettura di Ferrara, Triennale di Milano, Biennale di Architettura di Venezia, Biennale dello Spazio Pubblico (Roma), Medioera Festival di Cultura Digitale (Viterbo), New Italian Blood (Salerno), Onassis Cultural Centre (Athens, GR), AnualaTimisoreana de Arhitectura (Timisoara, R), Insituto Tecnológico de Monterrey (Monterrey, MEX), Institute of Advanced Arquitecture of Catalonia (Barcelona, E).SMALL is: Alessandro Cariello (architecture and urbanism), Luigi Falbo (architecture and technology), Rossella Ferorelli (architecture and curatorship), Andrea Paone (architecture and interior design).
